Description

Drinking tea in Japanese culture is a daily ritual that is an
important part of health and wellbeing. It is important in my life too,
so much so that I drink it several times a day. My husband and I go out
every May and harvest a year’s worth of nettle, dry it and steep it into
tea. We drink it for health but also it is just a great tasting wild tea
growing in our area. With this particular tea pot, I put a lot of thought
into the design and the aesthetics because tea is such an important part
of my daily ritual. It was woodfired at over 1200 celcius which makes it stoneware and stronger and less porous then other forms of pottery. If you enjoy a great cuppa or in this case Chadō then you will want to have this pot as part of your tea ritual.

Chadō, or, literally, “the way of tea” refers to a whole philosophy that’s embedded in a tea-drinking ceremony. However, this ceremony goes far beyond the simple act of adding boiling water to tea and serving it. In fact, in Japan, they even study the practice in universities. That’s because, through this ritual, they transmit values such as humility, human connection, honesty, and refinement.
